A sold out Spectrum watched while Curtis Huppe led the offensive charge with a hat trick, including a pair when his team scored 4 unanswered middle period goals, as part of a vital league lead extending 7-1 win over the visiting Manchester Phoenix. Richard Bentham set up a Phoenix lead just beyond the 10 minute mark, but a Huppe goal inside the period’s last 3 minutes had the clubs on even terms at the break. It took just 14 seconds after the re-start to open a difference when Huppe had another to give Spectrum’s men their first advantage of the game. Branislav Kvetan made it a 3-1 score when he netted in the 29th minute and shortly thereafter Rick Plant had the home team ahead by 3. Huppe completed a hat trick on the powerplay in the stanza’s final minute and the Flames began the 3rd 4 goals to the good. The good fortune carried on into the final period with a David Longstaff marker early in the session and another Plant goal less than 5 minutes from time.
