Canadian Cole Sanford will join Flames for the new campaign.  The 5’8”, 170lb forward has been one of EIHL’s most consistent point producers over 5 seasons with Cardiff Devils, having amassed 317 points from 157 goals and 160 assists in 308 league starts along with another 7 goals and 15 assists in 19 playoff appearances. The 30 year old helped the Welsh side to playoff titles in 2022 and the most recent one this past Spring. He also added a pair of Continental Cup Bronze medals as well as the 24-25 Championship trophy.  Along with team honours, the native of British Columbia, was a Second and First All-Star in consecutive seasons from 22-23 to 23-24.

Sanford’s pro career kicked off during the 2016-2017 schedule with ECHL Colorado Eagles where he iced 19 times and had 15 points before an immediate transfer to University of Alberta Golden Bears for the remainder of the season.  He iced 4 USports terms between 2016 and 2020 where he bagged 37 goals and 97 points in 88 games while collecting a national title during his 2^nd season and followed with back to back Canada West conference Second All-Star team selections.   

Between 2012 and 2016, Sanford played 260 WHL games, the bulk of which was at Medicine Hat Tigers before a short stint at Regina Pats. He tallied 249 points including 126 goals and was a Second All-Star team selection during the 14-15 set.

“There are not many guys we could think of who have been as consistently productive as Cole has across his stay in this league,” said Paul Dixon.

“Last year there were parts of games where we needed more guys with Elite skill level, whether it was 5 on 5 where we were pressing, or a regular powerplay, a 3 on 3 in overtime or a 4 on 3 chance, and Cole has for years shown as a player who can reliably help take advantage of those opportunities to turn a game.”
