Ben O’Connor had a couple of goals including the 3rd period winner, and the Flames kicked off a Scottish road doubleheader with a 3-2 win at Glasgow Clan.
Gary Haden with the only goal of the opening frame at 18:08 had the home team with a lead at the break.
During a powerplay, and just 46 seconds after re-start, Ben O’Connor levelled. Alex Yuill set Flames to a lead in the 25th minute and they carried that advantage through the 40 minute mark.
As he did in the 2nd, O’Connor struck again on a powerplay less than a minute into the frame to extend the lead to a pair. Stephen Dixon pulled Clan within a single once again about halfway through the frame, but it would be the closest they could get before the evening timed out.
Taz Burman got the start in the Flames goal and he was good on 19 of 21 shots while Ty Talor from Clan turned away 20 of 23.
“That was a great start to a road trip,” offered Paul Dixon.
“We played a pretty solid road game for most of the night. We didn’t make a load of mistakes and we were able to get enough scoring to convert it to a win.”
“Glasgow really went after us in the 3rd and it was a tight game that could have certainly turned their way but we locked it down quite well and did a good job of seeing out the win.”
“We are looking forward to trying to repeat it tomorrow night when we visit Fife Flyers.”
