Ryan Tait had a pair of goals including 1 of 3 straight Flames scored against no reply in the 2nd period to build a lead they would not give up during an eventual 4-2 win over the visiting Fife Flyers.
Around 3 minutes into the contest, Tait got Flames on the board, but with just 24 seconds left on the 1st period clock, Flyers made sure they went to break level on a goal each thanks to Liam MacDougall.
Shortly after re-start, Bradley Lalonde set Flames back in front with the first of 3 unanswered in the 2nd, followed by Ben O’Connor at 31:55 and Tait again at 35:43 to hold a 4-1 lead through 40 minutes.
89 seconds into the 3rd, Flyers cut their deficit when Brayden Sherbinin found the net, but that was as close as they would come in defeat.
“With where we are in the table, we are at the point where we can’t afford to drop a lot of points for the rest of the schedule and these points are not different,” said Paul Dixon.
“Especially in the 2nd period, where we had a lot of the play it was important that we did capitalize on some of those chances to be able to turn that game into a win.”
“Now we head on the road tomorrow and back to Cardiff and we will need to figure out a way to deliver a solid game in hopes of banking some points.”
