February 2nd at Sheffield Steelers - League

On home ice, Sheffield Steelers got into a 2 goal lead then did just enough to hold off the Flames reply the rest of the way to deliver a 3-2 defeat to the visiting Spectrum side.

The Yorkshire group went to the first break up a goal thanks to a Jonas Westerling strike less than 5 minutes from period time.

About 2 and a half minutes into the middle frame, Anthony DeLuca had them up a pair.  Calle Ackered replied on the powerplay about midway through the period to cut the deficit.  The home team re-stored a 2 goal difference at 35:06, but another Ackered powerplay goal just over 2 minutes from the buzzer had the Flames back within a single.

In the 3rd, most of the play took place in the Steelers zone, but a powerplay and a last minute extra man situation with an empty net were not enough to bring the game level before time expired.

“It is a shame we didn’t get a goal on one of our early powerplay opportunities, because maybe being in front early would have made a bit of a difference,” said Paul Dixon.

“It is yet another game where it is a matter of a bounce here or a bounce there and we could have run out with a couple of points.”

“We have to focus now on our visit to Dundee Sunday and make sure we are ready for another 60 minute effort that we would hope will get the points.”
