A 3 goal burst across a 5+ minute stretch, including 2 of them less than 60 seconds apart, helped Flames break open a 1-1 draw before going on to a 4-2 win over the visiting Dundee Stars.
A little over 4 minutes into the contest, Daniel Tedesco added on to his overtime winner the previous night when he put Flames in a lead that held up as the only goal of the period.
Just under 4 minutes into the 2nd, Toms Rutkis levelled for Stars who piled on the pressure for a good stretch of the first half of the frame, but at 31:28 Owen Griffiths, against the flow of play, had the home team in front. His goal kicked off a bit of a run for Spectrum’s tenants as Ian McNulty and Brett Ferguson followed up at 32:09 and 36:51, respectively, to have Flames enjoying a 3 goal cushion to begin the 3rd.
As the final stanza closed in on its halfway mark Elijiah Barriga cut Stars deficit back to a pair, but they would not get any closer in accepting a road defeat.
Taz Burman turned away 27 of 29 shots while Brython Preece was 25 for 29.
“You never complain when you come out of a weekend with all 4 points,” offered Flames Head Coach Paul Dixon.
“The turning point tonight was midway through the 2nd when Dundee had the majority of the play for a good stretch of the period, and probably were unlucky not to have taken a lead before we scored 3 quick ones to sort of take the wind from their sails.”
“We made it a real uphill climb for them by the time the 3rd started, and as we know when we are on the wrong end of that equation it is a tough situation from which to escape.”
“We can grab a breather for a day or two here and then shift our focus to cup play Saturday and Sunday with back to backs against Coventry to close out the group round in very important games that will determine our quarter final advancement fate.”
