Pre season starts in France
Flames will open their pre-season with a single weekend challenge at French Magnus league side Cergy-Pontoise at 6pm BST on August 22nd. The game brings Spectrum’s team to 5 preparation matches before commencing Cup action on September 12th. “We are extending our pre season run as part of a different approach to get us started,” explained Head Coach Paul Dixon. “Last year we upped it to 3 games and added an extra week of training, but did not seem to benefit at all from what we did based on how we started. You have the choice of staying same, going shorter which was our previous tradition, or going even longer and we will try the latter which we have not done before.” “The trip to France will also be a good chance to get away for a few days with everyone spending a lot of time together as part of team building for the season ahead.” “From start of training through to the Cup schedule, in addition to the games, we will also train for a full 4 weeks which in ice hockey is essentially the maximum you could undertake ahead of a season. We fully expect when the puck drops on Cup competition that this team will be ready to go, and we are very much looking forward to getting things started in August.” |
