Will Sticks for 4th Season

31 year old Mike Will is back for a 9th Elite League season, and 4th in Flames kit.  The Lewes born puck stopper was limited to a pair of games last season, which converted to a 3.27 goals against average and a 88.5 save percentage.  Including his opening EPL campaign under Spectrum lights, the 6’4”, 190lb cage guard has a Flames career goals against average of 3.14 and an 89.5 save percentage.

After 4 seasons with Braehead Clan, and another couple at Cardiff Devils from 2010 to 2016, Will made his Surrey debut in 2016-2017 when he iced 1220 Premier League minutes while posting a 2.80 goals against average and a 90.3 save percentage.  His best contribution to that run was a 7 game playoff set when he posted a 5 win, 1 loss and 1 penalty defeat record with a 2.28 goals against average and a 92% save rate in helping the Flames to the Final 4 weekend.

"I am extremely happy to be back with the Flames for a 4th season with the club,” said Will. "This is a special group of players to be a part of and we have unfinished business having had such a good year as a team. I can't wait for training camp to start up and to get back on the ice with the guys."

After an early taste of EPIHL hockey with the Jets, and a handful of English National League starts with Slough Harrier Hawks, Will’s development path took him to Canada where he spent the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 campaigns with Bradford Rattlers Junior Hockey club.  He moved on to college in America for the following pair of terms at NCAA Division III outfit Morrisville State ahead of a return to the UK where he signed on in 2010-2011 for his 1st of 4 seasons with the Scottish based Clan.

“We are very happy to get Mike back into the fold,” said Paul Dixon. “He did not get a lot of playing time last season, but he is comfortable being ready to play if he is needed, and that is a huge part of what a player in his role is being asked to do.”

“Over the past couple of seasons when injuries have come our way at that position, Mike has stepped in and filled the gap very well.”

“We are still looking to add another goaltender so in the end the plan is to continue to run with 3 guys, and Mike is an important part of achieving that objective as we head into the final weeks of the off season recruitment window.”
