Eamon McAdam made 40 saves plus all but one in penalties, while Jack Jacome and Ethan Strang tiebreaking penalty goals counted the offensive difference in a 3-2 home win over Sheffield Steelers.
An early powerplay went the way of the Flames thanks to Daniel Catenacci who set them to the lead and they remained on the slim edge to begin the 2nd.
Just under 5 minutes into the middle frame, Daniel Tedesco extended the lead to a pair and as happened in the opening 20, that goal stood as the only goal of the set.
In the 45th minute, Steelers got cut their deficit in half off the stick of Daniel Leavens and a little over 6 minutes from time Steelers brought it back to even through Joona Huttula to set the stage for overtime and penalties where a 2-1 Flames edge secured the win.
Eamon McAdam made 40 saves on 42 shots against Matthew Greenfield was 37 of 39.
“It was a bit of a roller coaster night with getting the lead early and playing with it for most of the evening only to then be fighting to get to overtime,” said Paul Dixon.
“The thing you take from that is the resilience in hanging in there until we could get some kind of break to still get a win to make the most of a huge night by Eamon McAdam.”
